Chin Augmentation – Johannesburg , Gauteng
A basic rule of thumb in aesthetics is that the chin should extend close to the outer point of the lower lip. In men, this characteristic gives their appearance a stronger sense of authority and masculinity. For women, having more of a classic looking chin adds a high level of elegance to their facial contour.
It might not be completely obvious, but the shape of your chin significantly affects the attractiveness of your profile. When looking at photos, most people will favorably judge a strong chin compared to one that is receding or weak.
Celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Angelina Jolie and Madonna are speculated to have chin implants. While this may or may not be fact, the attractiveness of their profiles due to their long jawlines cannot be denied.
While chin reconstruction can be accomplished through surgery, there are also non-surgical ways to augment the chin. This is done through dermal fillers. Results on any treatment may vary per individual as everybody is different and may respond differently to treatments mentioned.
Most commonly, dermal fillers are used to augment the chin. Dermal fillers are injected into the chin to help give the appearance of a more prominent chin in people with a small or a protracted chin. At Lightsculpt we use only hyaluronic acid dermal fillers for a chin augmentation because if you do no like the appearance of the final result it can be easily reversed with a product called hyalase.
Chin implants run the risk of infections and scar tissue and are difficult to reverse if you do not like the final result. Chin dermal fillers tend to be more favoured over chin implants because of the reversibility and the very low risk of infection with dermal fillers.
Muscle relaxant injections are also used to help soften the chin and improve the chin contouring. As we age the chin muscle (the mentalis) gets stronger and pulls the chin up making the chin point forward rather than south. Injecting a muscle relaxant into the chin muscle helps restore the chin to its original position.
People with a small or a protracted chin are good candidates for dermal fillers into the chin. Chin augmentation helps to create a more triangular and youthful appearance to lower face. This can be combined with jaw line contouring and cheek augmentation to try recreate the youthful triangle of beauty that is seen in models.
Muscle relaxant injections may also be useful for all patients whose chin looks like an orange peel when they push their lower lip up and out. Again this helps to create a more triangular and youthful appearance to lower face and improves the chin contouring
Tiny injections are used to deliver the muscle relaxant or/and dermal filler into the chin area. The risk of bruising is low. The swelling is virtually non-existent with the muscle relaxant, while with the dermal fillers the swelling can last 2 to 7 days.
Dermal fillers injected into the chin can last up to two years. Today with the longevity of the dermal fillers you do not need to run the risk of infection and scar tissue with chin implants. Muscle relaxant injections last around 3 to 4 months.
Dermal fillers and muscle relaxant injections are very safe. The risk of swelling and bruising in this area is very low although results are generalized and may vary per individual.
